Thru-Hiking the AT: Day 117 at The Om Dome - Resupply, Relaxation, and Trail Magic! (2026)

The Om Dome: A Hiker's Paradise

I awoke to the sound of alarms blaring, signaling the start of another eventful day on the trail. With a shuttle to catch, I knew I had to act fast. The journey to Sawyer Notch was a challenging climb, but the breathtaking views made it all worthwhile. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly and punctual shuttle driver, Yukon, who was a godsend.

One of the highlights of my stay at The Om Dome was the generous and delicious food. From oatmeal topped with pumpkin, dates, and walnuts to fettuccine, salad, and rolls, no one went hungry. The outdoor shower and loaner clothes were a welcome addition, and the ample hiker supplies, including quinoa and sweet potatoes, allowed me to cook a hearty meal. The space itself is modern, clean, and well-equipped, making it one of the top five hostels on the trail in my opinion.

What makes The Om Dome truly special is the attention to detail. From the outdoor shower to the loaner clothes and the generous food portions, every aspect is designed with the hiker in mind. The shuttle service, the resupply options, and the overall atmosphere create a sense of community and camaraderie among fellow trekkers. It's a place where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of nature.

However, I must admit that the high prices at Mills Market were a bit of a letdown. While the food was delicious, the cost was often double regular prices, making it difficult to justify the expense. Nevertheless, the overall experience at The Om Dome was exceptional, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable and welcoming place to rest their weary heads.

In my opinion, The Om Dome is a shining example of how hostels can be both functional and inviting. The attention to detail, the generous food portions, and the overall atmosphere create a sense of community and camaraderie among fellow trekkers. It's a place where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of nature, all while being well-cared for by the friendly and accommodating staff.

As I continued on my journey, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experience I had at The Om Dome. It was a place where I could take a break from the rigors of the trail, enjoy delicious food, and connect with fellow trekkers. It was a true oasis in the wilderness, and I will forever cherish the memories I made there.
